10.1 General
1. The dental organization shall have a policy and procedure for evaluating and referring emergencies that occur in in their facility. Immediate care shall be rendered to the patient at the level of skill available on-site until the associated emergency support is available on-site.
2. The dental organization shall meet the emergency needs of its patients in accordance with acceptable standards of practice and integration within their scope of practice
3. The dental organization shall ensure that a qualified member of the dental professional staff is always on premises and available to supervise the provision of emergency services (see 7.4).
4. Emergency Services shall include coordination and communication between the dental organization and an emergency department associated with a competent dental organization providing services in a timely manner consistent with national law and standard of care.
5. Appropriate dental professional staff shall be present to meet the needs associated with emergency CPR. The dental organization shall ensure that appropriate CPR resources and equipment are available in keeping with standard of care and national law including:
a) airway management equipment;
b) appropriate medications;
c) defibrillator (AED – automated external defibrillator);
d) suction equipment.
